Privacy front-ends empower users to fight back against web surveillance by acting as protective middlemen between you and known data-harvesting platforms, such as Reddit. Instead of connecting directly to these services, our server(s) request on your behalf and return the results through our website interface, shielding your IP addresses and digital fingerprint from the target platform, as they only see our server’s information. Alternative interfaces also (generally) enable a significantly improved user experience, typically free from ads, bloated code, and intrusive “sign up to continue” pop-ups. However, downsides include the inability to log in and thus use platform features like “up/down voting,” as well as trusting the host of the front-end. At Libre Galaxy, we host reliable, open-source front-end software instances from trusted privacy communities on a best-effort basis.
That’s a great idea! We use open-source software that can be self-hosted by anyone.
