Alternative front-ends, also known as privacy front-ends, let users access a platform's content without exposing themselves to its "surveillance capitalism" practices, aligning with the ethical technology principles of privacy and control. Common unwanted practices include data harvesting and forced registration pop-ups, both designed to build a profile on you.

How It Works: We host a website interface that proxies content from the original service. This means that our server(s) process your navigation requests and pass the unmodified the content through our interface. The service sees our server(s) information, such as our IP address and browser fingerprint; not yours.

Upsides:

• Your IP address and browser fingerprint are shielded from the original platform.
• Bypass forced platform registration/login.
• Removal of advertisements.

Downsides:

• It is not possible to log in to most services available through alternative front-ends. This means it is not possible to use user-driven platform features like "upvoting" posts on a social media platform.

Worth Considering:

• You shift your trust to the front-end provider instead of the original platform.
• All content shown is proxied from the original platform. None of it is stored on our servers. We do not endorse any content or platforms.
• When enough users use (or unwanted bots scrape) our front-end, the original platform may block our server(s), which breaks the content passthrough function. If you see a strange error on the front-end website, it was most likely caused by this.
• Under United States copyright law, 17 U.S.C. § 512(a), part of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, content that "is transmitted through the system or network without modification of its content" is lawful.
• Under the directive 2001/29/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 May 2001 on the harmonization of certain aspects of copyright and related rights in the information society, "temporary acts of reproduction [...], which are transient or incidental [and] an integral and essential part of a technological process and whose sole purpose is to enable: a transmission in a network between third parties by an intermediary" is lawful.
